Join our dedicated, talented team of employees, interns, and volunteers, who are passionate about the work they do to support the Museum’s mission to share Beverly history with everyone. We are looking for an archival and curatorial Collections Cataloguer to join a team dedicated to providing full digital access to our holdings. The Collections Cataloguer will work with a small team to catalogue the museum’s historic collection and related documentation into its depository of curatorial information, and will support the museum’s public-focused activities.

The Collections Cataloguer will be responsible for the full cataloguing of selected materials in the Historic Beverly collection. Information will be recorded in the museum’s collection system (PastPerfect) utilizing best practices for the cataloguing of objects. This position reports directly to the Associate Director for Collections and works closely with other members of the Historic Beverly team including staff, volunteers, and interns.

Responsibilities:

· Under supervision of the Associate Director for Collections, provide cataloguing research, data entry, and support towards the goal of creating a full and current electronic database of the museum’s collection.

· Conduct research using archival, registration and curatorial records, primary and secondary sources as well as online scholarly resources and tools in order to produce catalogue data for collection objects.

· Implement local data standards and data entry guidelines.

· Create comprehensive subject tagging and relationships as outlined by best practice in cataloguing.

· Handle and examine objects under curatorial supervision to confirm, update, and correct cataloguing.

· Work collaboratively as a team member, and keep within set timeline for deliverables.

All staff are expected to advocate for Historic Beverly, offer the best possible experience to all visitors, be proactive about life safety, collections care, and customer service, and complete requests and projects in a timely fashion. Some evenings and weekends required. $18 - 20/hour.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in MLIS, museum studies, information sciences, or related discipline

· One to three years demonstrated experience cataloging museum collections within a collections information system

· Prior experience of a similar project within a museum would be helpful

· Strong research and analytical skills

· Ability to work independently and efficiently to produce consistent, high-quality results over long-term project

· A high degree of organization, self-motivation, and great attention to detail is critical

· Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

· Demonstrated interest in museums, history, visual culture

· Proficiency using multiple operating systems and basic software including Microsoft Office Suite

· Photography image manipulation skills are preferred but training will be provided

· Respect of confidentiality of sensitive collection and museum data essential
