Communications Manager

Description:
The French Library seeks a highly motivated, strategic and creative Communications Manager who has a strong connection to our mission, and passion for the French and Francophone cultures.

The Communications Manager will be joining the French Library at a very exciting time as we have just renovated our brownstone building and rebranded.

The Communications Manager is responsible for the successful planning and execution of communications projects related to branding, digital marketing, communications, development/fundraising, and events. They work closely with the Executive Director and cross-departmentally to help grow public awareness, increase community engagement, and diversify revenue sources so that the French Library can meet and increase demands on our programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under the guidance of the ED, implement marketing strategies to build brand awareness, increased visibility, and support fundraising and volunteer engagement goals
  • Responsible for managing all of the French Library’s digital communications tools, including online marketing, social media channels, e-newsletters, website, targeted e-blasts, etc.
  • Write promotional materials, website content, social media posts, articles, publications and other communication materials as required
  • Manage voice, tone and attitude of French Library’s online presence, including on the website and social media
  • Oversee the creation and execution of printed marketing materials including brochures, annual report, invitations, etc.
  • Serves as chief liaison for press contacts for pre-event outreach and post-event coverage opportunities; ensures production and delivery of press releases; build and maintain relationships
  • Measure, track, and optimize the effectiveness of communications and marketing tools; prepares shareable reports
  • Ensure French Library’s identity is consistent across all mediums through effective messaging, knowledge sharing, and branding standards
  • Ensure effective and efficient distribution of marketing materials and maintain digital archives of marketing assets
  • Develop and manage relationships with external partners, including graphic designers, writers/editors, and printers
  • Help provide creative direction for photo shoots and video filming
  • Stay up-to-date on marketing trends, strategically improving the organization’s brand identity; research best practices and new opportunities for the most effective marketing and advertising strategies
  • Manage Marketing budget

Qualifications:

SKILLS

  • Native fluency in English required
  • Proficiency in French desired; strong interest in French culture and familiarity with pop culture required
  • Proven knowledge of effective marketing and communications strategies and industry trends
  • Strong designer “eye” and ability to speak in designer’s terms preferred
  • Excellent verbal, written, public speaking and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage staff, donors and volunteers from diverse backgrounds
  • Superior attention to detail and copyediting experience required
  • Ability to set priorities a must
  • Responsive with great follow-through skills and the ability to build trust and maintain constructive relationships across organizational boundaries
  • Ability to juggle multiple, simultaneous projects
  • Ability to strategize for big-picture planning
  • Advanced computer skills, with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva, Publisher, WordPress, HTML, Google Analytics; familiarity with donor or constituent management applications, such as ActiveNet, a plus
  • Ability to vary work hours to accommodate “after hours” needs (attend meetings, make presentations, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment and effectively communicate with diverse populations
  • Candidate must be authorized to work in the U.S.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent 3-year experience minimum required in communications, marketing, UX, or a related field that shows a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and strategically
  • Experience in nonprofit resource development preferred

SCHEDULE

Monday to Friday (9 AM – 5 PM)
Occasional evening and/or weekend work when taking photos at events.
