Development Associate, Leadership Gifts

Description:

The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA) seeks a full-time Development Associate in Leadership Gifts and Planned Giving. Reporting to the Director of Development, the position supports the Leadership Gifts and Planned Giving teams in their efforts to cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors and prospective donors of six- and seven-figure gifts to the MFA.

The Development Associate provides high-level support, including creating and updating solicitation roadmaps, managing data in the donor database, and compiling reports, event lists, and budget activity. Additional responsibilities include coordinating team meetings, drafting correspondence, supporting mailings, electronic filing, and other duties as requested.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide operational support for the Leadership Gifts and Planned Giving teams, including an extensive array of technical and confidential matters involving donors, potential donors, volunteer leadership and senior staff members
  • Manage solicitation roadmaps and prospect portfolios by entering and extracting information to and from the fundraising database, Tessitura
  • Prepare reports as needed for development and related activity areas
  • Draft timely gift acknowledgements and other correspondence to donors
  • Coordinate event invitation lists for exhibition openings, lecture receptions, development dinners, and other special events
  • Schedule team meetings and coordinate agendas
  • Support the work of the Director and Leadership Gift Officers in their work with assigned curatorial and program departments throughout the Museum
  • Attend events to greet and guide guests
  • Track the Leadership Gifts budget expenditures
  • Perform other duties as required
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • One year of office experience as well as a general knowledge of non-profit fundraising preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent writer
  • Strong professional demeanor and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize assignments, and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as a team player
  • Solid working knowledge of PC-based Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are required; high level of comfort with database systems and an ability to extract data for the purpose of management reporting
