Do you want the ability to not just perform your craft, but really live it? This is what we do each day in our 17th-century English Village. Educate, enlighten, and engage a diverse audience of all ages through a timed, semi-scripted, semi-improved, interactive experience. Take on the role of a real person, learn who they were, and invite guests to explore a day in the life of a Pilgrim.

This “show” consists of scripted scenarios, hands-on activities (improvised), storytelling, and unscripted guest conversations. Through these interactions, historical performers (actors) are able to impact our guests by bringing history to life.

This position is a full-time seasonal position beginning on or around June 13, 2022 and concluding on November 27, 2022.Here at Plimoth Patuxet Museum we offer actors the unique ability to have two consecutive days off each week, generally consistent working hours, and benefits.


  • Perform five days a week, in our timed, semi-scripted, immersive experience portraying a historical figure in 17th-Century Plymouth Colony. This production occurs in an outdoor (non-climate controlled) environment.
  • Run non-scripted, time programs demonstrating 17th-century lifeways, skill sets and topics/activities as a historical figure in 17th-Century Plymouth Colony when not participating in the scripted experience.
  • Engage and interact with a diverse audience of all ages throughout the performance
  • Improvise in character based on the reactions of audience members while successfully completing all required blocking, lines, and performance cues.
  • Provide a friendly and welcoming presence for all guests and coworkers throughout the Museum
  • Attend rehearsals, training sessions and meetings as requested by the supervisor.
  • Memorize lines, blocking, and relevant historical information.
  • Take & implement notes given by the Museum Theater Manager or Assistant Manager.
  • Wear and use voice amplification devices
  • Collaborate with other Historical Performers as part of an ensemble cast.
  • Participate in additional acting performances/shows including but not limited to 1 person shows, scripted dining experiences and online performances for schools and other groups. (these will be assigned with as much advance notice as possible)
  • Maintain proper use and care of props, costumes and scenic design.
  • Adhere to the policies of Plimoth Patuxet Museums as outlined in the Museum Employee manual and current job description.
  • Other duties as assigned


The workplace is not climate controlled. This position requires primarily outdoor work with some minimal moments working indoors. When outdoors, it can sometimes be in adverse climatic conditions. Work may be performed in dusty and smoky environments; in poorly lit areas; near open fires. The noise level in the workplace varies from quiet to loud.


Must be available to work Saturdays, Sundays and some holidays. Typical hours are 9:00am - 5:00pm, five days a week through the end of November. Flexibility in work hours and days off is required. This position will include working additional night/weekend hours or days as needed; these will be primarily in October & November.

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of two years of acting experience. This may include high school, college or community theatre performances.
  • Experience with improv, immersive theatre, and devised theatre strongly preferred
  • Experience playing an instrument, singing, and dancing preferred
  • Experience in theatre education and passion for history preferred
  • Experience working with the public or customer service is essential.

We are casting roles to portray both men and women. Actors must be able to realistically portray Mayflower passengers and other known early inhabitants of Plymouth Colony. We are casting roles to portray ages late teens and above.
