The American Repertory Theater at Harvard University seeks an Accessibility and Disability Justice Organizer to serve as an in-house expert on accessibility services, supports for people with disabilities, and competencies in accessibility and disability justice for internal and external stakeholders in a live theater environment. Reporting to the Education and Engagement Director, the ADJ Organizer will work in partnership with the Education and Engagement team to oversee, develop, design, evaluate, and execute accessibility initiatives, programs, and accommodations, as well as training and competency-building for staff and stakeholders.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties will be performed by the Accessibility & Disability Justice Organizer, in partnership with the Education and Engagement team:
- Oversee, develop, design, evaluate, and execute accessibility initiatives, programs, and accommodations for audiences and visitors to the American Repertory Theater.
- Identify needs within disability communities and how they can best be served by the theater’s programs and operations.
- Creates accessibility resources for A.R.T. programs, which may include social narratives, video captions, and audio description.
- Serves as point of contact for patron and staff inquiries on accessibility services and questions.
- Coordinate relationship-building, communications, scheduling, rehearsal support, vendor setup, and payments for access providers for online and live performances and events, including ASL coaches and interpreters, audio describers, open and CART captioners.
- Collaborate cross-departmentally on how to create more inclusive working environments, communications, and practices specific to departmental needs and operations, including:
- Collaborate with production and artistic producing staff on the integration of access services into artistic performances and events.
- Collaborate with marketing, communications, and patron services staff on implementing best practices for relationship-building and communications with existing and potential audiences.
- Collaborate with the anti-racism engagement co-leads to develop intersectional strategies towards anti-racism and disability justice.
- Collaborate with staff responsible for A.R.T.’s current building project and capital campaign with an eye towards both architecture and programming for a new performance space in Allston.
- Coordinate staff learning and training around competencies related to accessibility and disability justice.
- Evaluate and advocate for adjustments to the theater’s practices to best serve individuals with disabilities, including assembling and consulting with groups of user experts.
- Other duties as mutually agreed upon.
SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION
- $25-30/hr. based on experience
- This is a part-time, hourly position. Weekly hourly commitments may fluctuate based on needs and are expected to fall between 6-14 hours per week.
- Some weekday and weekend availability will be required.
During the current period of Covid-19 related restrictions, this position may start as a remote position, with the transition to onsite in Cambridge when the office reopens.
