Assistant Director

Description:
The Carpenter Museum in conjunction with the Rehoboth Antiquarian Society (RAS) seeks a dynamic Assistant Director. This part time position (15-20 hours a week) serves as the primary coordinator for the RAS membership and development efforts and publicity, and oversees the Carpenter Museum’s financial record-keeping. This position is responsible for coordinating memberships, volunteers, fundraising events, grant development and membership communications including monthly e-news and quarterly newsletters. A creative thinker and team player, the Assistant Director will play a key role in coordinating the Museum’s advancement and development efforts, working to organize and expand the Museum’s fundraising efforts to secure resources for our mission and vision for the future. Occasional evening and weekend availablily required.  
Qualifications:

Essential Functions include:

  • Coordinate RAS and Museum-specific advancement activities, including memberships, monetary donations, corporate partnerships, fundraising events, and grant development.

  • Develop and run an annual member event

  • Develop and implement ways to recruit new members and volunteers

  • Direct and encourage the use of volunteers to help carry out the programs, activities, and services of the Museum. Train and recognize museum docents and volunteers.

  • Steward an annual appeal

  • Secure sponsorships for Museum fundraising events

  • Work with the Director and Development committee to provide effective regular communication with members, including the Winter Magazine, seasonal newsletters, monthly membership emails, and other communications.

  • Coordinate the Museum’s signature events, in collaboration with the Director and event committees, including the Folk Art & Artisan Show and the Strawberry Festival

  • Organize and maintain records and manage acknowledgements for memberships and donations

  • Apply for grants as appropriate

  • Assist in managing the Museum’s budget

  • Ensure that bills are paid and keep up-to-date financial records both hard copy and digital.

  • Work collaboratively with the Director and Research Center Manager to ensure positive visitor and member engagement with the Museum, including giving tours as needed and assisting with Museum programs and events. Some evening and weekend hours are required.


Desired qualifications:

  • B.A. in Museum Studies, History, or a related field

  • Museum or non-profit experience, especially with membership coordination

  • Strong organizational and communications skills

  • Enthusiasm for working both independently and collaboratively

  • Familiarity with Little Green Light and Quickbooks software
