Social Media Strategist and Content Producer


The City of Chelsea, through its Department of Housing and Community Development, seeks an experienced digital communications specialist to advance a brand identity for downtown Chelsea and promote the offerings of our area businesses. If you are an enthusiastic, passionate storyteller to help our clients amplify their brands.

Chelsea is home to a rich cluster of independently owned small businesses, with representation from all over Latin America. Our restaurants and retailers have unique, authentic international food, while our retailers stock a wide variety of affordable products. Just minutes from downtown Boston, this walkable, lively neighborhood is a hidden gem full of stories to tell.

Scope of Work:

  • Tell the stories of downtown Chelsea’s small businesses and the neighborhood as a whole that are imaginative and appropriate to each channel we engage with.
  • Design a Social Media Campaign including clear identification of English and Spanish-speaking target audiences, effective hashtags and weekly/monthly posting calendars.
  • Produce, schedule and post consistent, engaging social media content to Instagram, Tiktok, Facebook, Youtube, and Twitter to drive organic traffic. Write text in English and Spanish, take photos, and shoot and edit video.
  • Manage content - text, photos, gifs and video -- across multiple platforms. Slice and dice content for each specific platform such as editing into short clips, animated images, still images, formatting (vertical, square, horizontal).
  • Analyze and report on channel analytics. Adjust strategy to maximize effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with community stakeholders and amplifiers across platforms.
  • Support to downtown businesses to advance their social media engagement.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English is required.
  • Experience developing social media content and the creation of a clear brand identity, preferably telling place-based stories and/or promoting small businesses.
  • Demonstration of creative storytelling ability. Able to distill content into bite-sized social media captions and images.
  • Creative and analytical thinking with a passion for celebrating unique places and cultures in the social media landscape.
  • Familiar with scheduling and management tools such as Hootesuite or similar.
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately within tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and to respond to feedback throughout the campaign.
  • Familiarity with the City of Chelsea preferred.

This is a four month contract position anticipated to require 15 to 20 hours a week. Total compensation up to $8,500. The City may elect to extend this contract until December 31, 2021, subject to funding availability and community need.
