The Opportunity.

The Guest Services & Retail Manager is responsible for the profitability and overall operations of the Store at deCordova. The Guest Services & Retail Manager ensures an exceptional shopping experience for customers through merchandising, the hiring and training of staff, setting high standards of customer service, and serves as a positive role model for store staff.


In This Role You Will:

  • Achieve sales and profitability goals for the deCordova Store. Create and manage budgets for the Store.

  • Hire, train and manage sales staff, and Assistant Store Manager. Manage coverage of the sales floor and scheduling of staff.

  • Works extensively on the sales floor. Assist all visitors and customers with merchandise questions and sales transactions. Serve as an ambassador for deCordova by effectively answering questions about the Park and Museum, and sharing information about public programs and membership. Achieve membership sales goals for the store.

  • Research, select, and purchase inventory for the Store. Maintains expert knowledge of fine crafts and all merchandise stocked at the Store.

  • Create and maintain the planogram. Create effective display plans and materials.

  • Maintain all aspects of the P.O.S. inventory system which includes but is not limited to the receiving of new merchandise and inventory controls in the P.O.S. system.

  • Create, execute, and manage special events to promote the Store and the artists it represents.

  • Supervise payment of invoices. Handle communications with artists and vendors concerning invoices and products.

  • Reconcile daily sales and cash management.

  • Maintain security of Store property and inventory.

  • Represent the Museum’s interests as a member of the Museum Store Association.

  • Position report to the Business Director

  • Performs other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience managing a retail operation, preferably in a museum or store offering fine crafts.

  • At least 1 year of experience hiring and managing a sales staff of 5 or more.

  • Demonstrated success in purchasing and merchandising store inventory.

  • Experience managing inventory and P.O.S. systems. Shopify experience is a plus.


Skills/Qualifications:

  • Energetic, self-starter who is willing to work hands-on; ability to handle multiple responsibilities and demand with high level of confidence, professionalism and patience.

  • Exceptional customer service and communication abilities and standards.

  • Strong leadership skills and ability to maintain high standards of service.

  • Must have the ability to problem solve and prioritize on a regular basis.

  • Strong organizational and numerical skills are required.


Other:

  • Must have the physical ability to stand for extended periods of time, lift 25 lbs., and be able to maneuver boxes of merchandise and fixtures throughout the store.

  • Ability to cover the Store on weekends and nights as needed.
