Seasonal Trail & Conservation Steward - Northeastern, MA

Description:

The Opportunity.

The Seasonal Steward supports property care and trails maintenance at Mary Cummings Park, Weir Hill, and the Ward Reservation, as well as Stevens-Coolidge House & Gardens. Each day will start with an early morning cleanup of parking lots and trail heads, after which staff will work to maintain trails and landscapes, complete trail improvement projects, clear field edges and stonewalls of unwanted vegetation, and care for recently planted tree & shrubs. The Seasonal Steward will also support engagement activities including volunteer management and group work projects, event set up and staffing, parking lot management, and clean up following events.


In This Role You Will:

  • Trails maintenance; brushing trail corridors, clearing water bars, tread improvements, sign installation, and bridge maintenance

  • Landscape maintenance; string trimming, watering, mulching, tree & shrub care

  • Working with volunteers on trails and landscape projects

  • Program & event support; set up, parking, break down, waste management

  • Other duties assigned as needed

Qualifications:

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of high school degree or equivalent

  • Experience using and basic maintenance of string trimmers and brush saws, or willingness to learn

  • Ability to follow safety standards and techniques and to use appropriate safety equipment.

  • A good attitude, willingness to be flexible, and a commitment to achieving the goals of the Trustees

  • Ability to lift 40 pounds and hike up to 5 miles in the course of a day


Other:

  • A satisfactory criminal background (CORI) check

  • A valid driver’s license, as well as a satisfactory driving record as outlined in The Trustees’ driving policy, preferred


Working Conditions:

  • Ability to handle the physical demands of the job; walking/hiking several miles, working in all weather conditions, and environments that may include thorns, poison ivy and biting insects.

  • Member of a small team of property-based and specialist staff

  • Operation of power equipment including walk behind mowers, string trimmers, brush saws, edgers, and hedging equipment


Compensation and Benefits:

  • This is a seasonal, non-exempt, hourly paid position, with an optimal start date on 5/3. This position is based at Stevens-Coolidge House & Gardens, North Andover, MA, 01845.
