Position Summary:
The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is in the second year of a five-year strategic plan that reflects Isabella's radical experiment and our commitment to broadening audiences. The plan lays out a bold, contemporary vision for the future. Building on explosive audience growth and dynamic program innovation in recent years, we are exploring ways to realize most fully the Gardner’s vast potential as a vibrant cultural resource and a catalyst for daring, meaningful, artistic experiences.
The Development Assistant is a key member of the Development team that is responsible for the multi-million-dollar fundraising effort to implement the strategic plan and launch the Gardner’s exciting next chapter.
Reporting to the Director of Individual Giving and Advancement, the Development Assistant will provide administrative support for the Development Office, focusing on several main objectives within the department which include: supporting the Chief Development Officer (CDO) in internal and external fundraising activities; providing support with meeting planning, preparation, and logistics; drafting appeals, acknowledgement letters, and reports; supporting the ongoing work of the boards and committees of the Gardner; keeping appropriate records updated and tracking philanthropic opportunities and credit lines; staffing events; and managing office supplies and mail.
Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree with ability to demonstrate interest in the development field
  • A passion and understanding of the arts is highly preferred
  • Interest in Development field
  • Strong project management skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and follow through
  • Excellent writing and interpersonal skills
  • Eagerness to learn, collaborate, and work as part of a team
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends when needed

Preferred:
  • Experience planning special events
  • Familiarity with fundraising databases, especially Tessitura, and Microsoft Office tools like Excel and PowerPoint
