The Engagement Manager (EM) is responsible for the public experience at Long Hill; our programs, events, tours, visitor experiences and amenities. Working closely with and reporting to the Property Director, the EM devises innovative approaches to developing programs, events and experiences for the purpose of engaging visitors in the history and beauty of the property and in the conservation, preservation and agricultural work of The Trustees. The EM is responsible for infusing programs and the visitor experience with vitality, vibrancy, and creativity. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated passion for public gardens, nature, horticulture, and conservation. They will also bring joy, focus, and a standard of excellence to their day-to-day work with the capacity to collaborate with diverse internal and external partners, build and manage annual budgets and key performance indicators, and grow and oversee a team of seasonal and part-time assistants. The EM is a full-time position with a flexible schedule, weekend/evening work will be required.
In This Role You Will:
Implement New Events and Programs:
Design and implement a mixture of innovative and year-round public programs, educational activities, events, and behind-the-scenes experiences themed around horticulture and enjoyment of our public garden.
Deliver educational programs to a variety of audiences.
Increase and be accountable for program and event revenue and expenses.
Support all events through budget management, on-site support, and evaluation
Responsible for tracking metrics for all programs and visitation.
Work with statewide staff to carry out annual programmatic themes and initiatives.
Work with Statewide Director of Signature Events and Special Events Manager to facilitate statewide programs and initiatives.
Assess and adapt garden tour programs to provide memorable and distinctly unique tour experiences
Develop program satisfaction surveys and implement statewide visitor satisfaction surveys

Enhance the Visitor Experience:
Provide outstanding customer service to visitors at all times
Develop and implement self-guided experiences, specialized tours, activities, and interpretive materials for visitors
Develop and implement new customer service and membership sales training to teams of docents and property staff
Manage all aspects of the visitor experience at entry, circulation, and exit
Play a key role, with the Property Director, in the vision and direction of the property.
Grow Visitation and Program Participation:
Work closely with the Marketing team to increase web, print and social media promotions of Long Hill as a destination for multiple audiences
Manage and grow social media presence on Facebook and Instagram
Build upon current relationships and develop new partnerships to expand outreach and awareness of the property
Identify and target new audiences with a comprehensive marketing plan
Connect more local visitors to the property through the development of visitor promotions and Massachusetts tourism
The ideal candidate will have energy, enthusiasm, and be dedicated to providing every visitor a remarkable experience at Long Hill.
5+ years of progressively responsible experience in visitor engagement, education, interpretation, and/or sales/customer service in a non-profit or for-profit setting
B.A. in related field
Minimum of three years as a manager or supervisor of staff
Strong background in mentoring, evaluating, and providing feedback to employees
Demonstrated ability to manage many deadlines, projects, and relationships
Strong understanding of education and visitor engagement best practices
Basic knowledge of gardening and horticulture a plus
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to manage relationships
Demonstrated experience in oral communication, presentations, persuasive writing, and training staff
Strong analytic and organizational skills; ability to manage projects and workflow, using time and resources effectively
High regard for teamwork, collegiality, customer service and visitor experience
A valid driver’s license, as well as a satisfactory driving record
Willing to travel within Massachusetts using a personal vehicle
Able to work weekends and evenings as required, attending all signature events
The ability to lift 40lbs independently and spend periods of time standing during events
