Lexington Historical Society in Lexington, Massachusetts seeks
an experienced Executive Director to provide strategic thinking and hands-on
management for a vibrant organization serving the local community and visitors
from around the world. The Society manages and interprets three historic house
museums with significant connections to the Battle of Lexington, provides
stewardship of important collections and archives spanning three centuries of
Lexington history, and provides year-round programming to the community at its
Lexington Center headquarters and program center as well as on a virtual
platform. The Society has a paid staff of seven year-round full-time and
part-time employees, thirty seasonal employees, several hands-on volunteer
committees, and over fifty local volunteers. The Executive Director is
responsible for managing the annual budget of $600,000 as well as growing and
preserving the Endowment.
Lexington Historical Society has grown considerably in
recent years and requires a director who is experienced in building strong
relationships with current donors, as well as stewarding relationships with
potential donors and funders – both individuals and corporations. The director
should be also be skilled at fostering productive partnerships with other
organizations in Lexington and beyond in order to advance the mission of
Lexington Historical Society and increase engagement. The organization is
actively trying to increase its membership base, so a proven track record of
strong membership cultivation is desired.
The Director’s primary role is to manage staff and serve as
liaison between the Board of Directors, committees, and staff in order to
pursue organizational goals.
This is a full-time position.
Yearly salary range is $70,000-$90,000, commensurate with experience. Lexington
Historical Society provides generous vacation, sick time, and personal time,
but no medical benefits.
