Position Overview:

The General Society of Mayflower Descendants (“GSMD”) currently has 30,000+ members who join our organization through 54 member societies, worldwide. The Mayflower Society’s Membership Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that our Member Societies receive excellent support services for their members from GSMD, with the goal of helping the Member Societies and GSMD maintain accurate, matching membership records. The Membership Coordinator is responsible for the development and management of GSMD’s relationship with his/her counterparts in each of these organizations. As a key GSMD ambassador, the Membership Coordinator will provide excellent support for the Society’s membership services including; periodic membership reporting and updates; periodic membership reconciliations, including the annual reconciliation; effective use of technology for efficient information exchange and communications between GSMD and the Member Societies; and professional assistance with member inquiries. The Membership Coordinator may assist in promotional and member events throughout the year and support private member tours of the Mayflower Society House and Mayflower Meetinghouse properties, as needed. The Membership Coordinator also serves as a liaison to the Pilgrim Family Societies Partners to further promote the benefits of GSMD membership and to enhance the engagement of GSMD members.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

· As a value-added partner, serve as relationship coordinator between GSMD and its 54 member societies;

· Maintain accurate and high quality membership records;

· Provide periodic membership reporting, reconciliations and information to Member Societies using knowledge of membership software databases, excel and other systems as needed.

· Working with Executive Director, seek ways to streamline processing and communications with the Member Societies to create efficiencies;

· Supporting the Executive Director, Secretary General and Members-at-large, provide reporting to assist in the analysis of membership data to evaluate and quantify program results;

· As a GSMD ambassador, respond to inquiries from Society members and prospective members:

· Working with the Secretary General and the Director of Finance, support the Annual Reconciliation and Assessments of Member Societies;

· Support new member permissioning to the members-only portion of the GSMD website;

· Field telephone calls and email inquiries to welcome and assist new members by identifying and connecting them to member resources;

· Support private member tours of the Mayflower Society House and Mayflower Meetinghouse properties as needed;

· Assist with the support of member events, such as: GBOA, Congress, the Heritage Week Breakfast, and on campus events;

· Serve as a liaison to the Pilgrim Family Societies Partners to further promote the benefits of membership and to enhance the engagement of GSMD members;

· Support research, reporting and other requests as needed in the formation of new member societies;

· Working with the Executive Director, develop new member programs and services;

· And, other duties as needed or requested.


REQUIRED: College graduate with2-3 years’ relevant experience in client-facing member services role. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. Outgoing, positive, friendly, professional attitude. Must be self-motivated and confident working independently, as well as eager to be a collaborative team member. Accuracy is critical for success in this position. Tech savvy, with high proficiency in Excel (including use of formulas, data input, extraction and analysis) and with proven experience in using technology to create operational efficiencies. Highly organized; ability to multi-task, and detail oriented. Flexibility to attend occasional evening and weekend events; limited travel may be required.

PREFERRED: Experience using IMIS membership management database a plus. Knowledge of lineage societies, as well as knowledge of the Mayflower Passengers and the Pilgrim Legacy is beneficial.

Founded in 1897, The Mayflower Society, or General Society of Mayflower Descendants (GSMD), is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with national headquarters in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Membership requires proof of lineage from one of the passengers who travelled to America on the Mayflower in 1620. Its mission includes education about the Mayflower Pilgrims and maintaining the gold standard of lineage review through its research and publications. The Society publishes the Mayflower Families Silver Books, Mayflower Quarterly Magazine, and other Pilgrim related materials.
