Founded in 1974, Mass Humanities is a private non-profit organization that serves as the statewide affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Through grant-making to small nonprofits throughout the state, partnerships with educational institutions, and community engagement programs, Mass Humanities leads and supports programs using history, literature and other humanities disciplines to improve civic life in Massachusetts.

Mass Humanities seeks to fill a new position, Director of Administration. The Director of Administration will be a strategic thought-partner to the Executive Director, and work collaboratively with the Executive Director to manage all internal operations, including Human Resource management, staff professional development, budget and finance, databases, facilities, and internal communications. Successful candidates will have experience in most or all of these areas along with the desire for ongoing professional development to remain abreast of best practices. Specific duties will include the following:

· Use best practices to develop and improve internal systems, and to ensure effective internal communications between department initiatives.

· Oversee and lead the annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the ED and Fiscal Officer;

· Administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor and report on progress and changes; enforce all finance-related policies and internal control responsibilities.

· Improve and enhance current human resources processes including professional development of staff, performance evaluation process, benefits administration, open enrollment, training, and recruiting.

· Strive to enhance corporate culture related to diversity, equity and inclusion.

· Support and enhance IT infrastructure and usage, including managing current databases used for fundraising, donors, and grant management.

· Supervise part-time Fiscal Officer to ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies, procedures and control;

· Manage consultant agreements and ensuing consulting relationships with third-party (independent) contractors to ensure delivery of services; approve related invoices and payments.

· Manage compliance and reporting related to state and federal program funding

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

· Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree or CPA a plus.

· 7 to 10 years of overall professional experience; Five plus years of broad financial and operations management experience a plus.

· Track record of supporting organizational development and maintaining a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion

· Experience growing strong HR and organizational structures and systems, including training programs that maximize individual and organizational goals across the organization.

· Prior relevant experience selecting and overseeing software implementations and managing relationships with software vendors; solid knowledge of accounting and reporting software; experience with Raiser’s Edge or other donor software a plus.

· Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to multitask, prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

· Excellent computer skills including excel required.

· Previous experience in non-profit management, education, or public administration a plus.
