Institutional Giving Officer

Join our dynamic fund raising team!Historic New England is the oldest and largest regional heritage organization in the nation and we are looking fora creative and resourceful person to join our development team as ourInstitutional Giving Officer.

This position writes and administers assigned foundation, government, and corporate grants. The Institutional Giving Officer authors and/or edits proposals and reports, cultivates and stewards funders, and carries out prospect research. You will work closely with the Senior Institutional Giving Officer and the organization’s leadership team. This employee also serves as the point person and advisor for proposals initiated by staff not on the development team.

Manages and stewards an assigned portfolio of foundations, government agencies, and corporations to cultivate and solicit grants in support of Historic New England priorities, meeting all requirements of the funding entity. Writes compelling well-constructed proposals within the style and brand platform guidelines of the organization. Works closely with all staff teams to research, develop, draft, edit, and submit letters of inquiry, proposals, project budgets, acknowledgments, reports, and other funder communications. Maintains electronic institutional giving data and communications, maintains accurate records in database for reporting, and communicates with internal and external constituents.Serves as the point person and advisor for proposals initiated by staff not on the development team. Provides technical and editing assistance, and ensures this activity is accurately recorded. Identifies, researches, and evaluates new sources of potential funding in line with the organization’s needs and priorities. Provides formatted research reports.Performs other duties as required.

LOCATION:  This position may be headquartered at one of our regional offices or remote work is also an option, in combination with handling on-site projects as required. Periodic travel to Historic New England’s offices throughout New England is required. Candidate must reside in New England region.


Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. Minimum of two years of nonprofit organizational grant writing experience with success securing foundation, government, and/or corporate grants. Excellent writing and editing skills. Excellent analytical, research verbal, interpersonal, and project management skills. Ability tolearn appropriate levels of information about a broad range of activities and to synthesize complex ideas into compelling proposals that resonate with funders.Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment. Ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks, pay attention to details, and meet tight deadlines. Proficiency in office productivity software and technologies, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and constituent management databases, preferably Tessitura.Valid driver’s license required. Candidate must reside in New England region.

Other Preferred Qualifications:Understanding of and passion for Historic New England’s mission and program areas. Experience working with national and New England foundations and government agencies that fund preservation, cultural, and educational sectors.Educational, professional, or volunteer experience in fields related to the humanities, museums, or historic preservation.Experience working with Tessitura.
