Studio Monitor & Sewing Instructor

Cambridge's Stitch Lounge, Gather Here is hiring a studio monitor/sewing instructor for our professional studio. Gather Here is a fun and welcoming yarn, fabric, and handcraft boutique and studio for the discerning contemporary crafter, we offer Bernina sewing machines, Bernina embroidery machines, longarm quilting machines, overlock & coverstitch machines, as well as tools/equipment for stitchers of all skill levels to be successful in their craft journey. We are looking for makers with experience working with a variety of skill levels and learning abilities to help with machine maintenance, assist with machine set-up, interpreting sewing instructions, and providing guidance when needed. This position also teaches sewing basics and other garment/accessory workshops - all on a sewing machine. Experience working with a variety of fibers and a compassionate approach to education is key. A strong vocabulary in the fiber arts is essential. As is a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and social justice.
This position leads a variety of workshops: teaching people of various skills levels how to sew, how to safely and successfully operate machinery, and build up student confidence in crafting a handmade wardrobe. Studio monitors assist with pattern testing and create samples as well as operates and maintains the studio longarm quilting machine.
- Background in education is great.
- Experience working with a variety of ages and skills.
- Comfort with administrative duties.
- Ability to communicate sewing/fiber craft instructions in person and online (gather here is offering online learning in light of COVID-19).
- Experience in customer service and offering knowledgeable answers to technical questions, and providing on-the-fly demonstrations of a full range of handcrafts.
To be a part of our team you need to be a friendly, outgoing, problem solver who is self-directed, detail oriented, flexible, punctual, and able to stand for long periods of time. Your primary responsibility will be to work with 4 to 8 makers in the studio to help them with equipment and support their creative journey while maintaining the studio. All customers regardless of age and skill level use studio equipment and safe maker practices are required.
Additional responsibilities include operating a POS system for inventory used in workshops, studio upkeep, receiving studio supplies, communicating with gather here management, and chronicling completed projects. All of our employees should have a wealth of knowledge in multiple crafts and experience multi-tasking.

Our compensation package is competitive. Our minimum hourly rate for entry level instructors is $20/hour and include paid time off and sick time, a generous

Full-time positions (30+ hours per week) also include company subsidized
health (medical, dental, and vision) benefits, a 3% matching 401K
retirement plan, and subsidized family leave.
