The Costume/Props Designer will help support our proud artistic tradition of outdoor performances, which emphasizes the relationship between actor and audience. This position will begin in mid-April and end in late-August.
Costume/Props Designer Responsibilities
Work with the director to create a artistic vision for the production
Design costume, hair, makeup, and props and present finished design to the production team
Procure costume pieces and props, with assistance from interns and the Production Manager
At the end of the production, ensure orderly storage of costumes and props used in rehearsals and performances
Be responsible for the maintenance and care of costumes/props and costume/prop storage space for the duration of the production
Work with the Technical Director in the setup of quick change areas as needed
Be present at tech rehearsals to facilitate the execution of the artistic vision of the production
Communicate costume changes and quick change needs to Stage Manager
Previous experience in theatre
Lives within reasonable commuting distance to Amherst, MA
Ability to work with people of any age group
Ability to solve problems creatively
Team player attitude
Willingness to learn
Good sense of humor
Costume design experience
Prop design experience
Outdoor theatre experience
Community theatre experience
The ideal candidate will be a creative team player dedicated to creating a sense of community in an organization that includes staff and volunteers. Ability to think on your feet and adjust to the unpredictable nature of outdoor theatre is a must.
While Hampshire Shakespeare is a community theatre, the company offers a small stipend for much of its staff. All stipends are commensurate with experience and company budget.
