French & Spanish Teacher Full-Time - Walnut Hill School for the Arts (2019-2020)


Walnut Hill School for the Arts is seeking a full time faculty member to teach French and Spanish for the 2019-2020 academic year. This position will teach 4 sections of varying levels of French and 1 section of Spanish beginning in mid-August 2019.

Walnut Hill language programs aim to teach language and encourage cross-cultural exploration in an immersive environment; students are required to use only the target language to engage in class, even at the introductory level. The department places special emphasis on speaking, and students hone their skills through active participation in different activities such as story-telling, songs, routine conversations, presentations, and debates. Courses are comprehensive and sequential, and celebrate language, culture, and personal growth.


· Teach four sections of French and one of Spanish (three in the fall and two in the spring or vice versa);

· Serve as a student advisor, club advisor, and/or participate in other school activities and chaperoning as assigned; and

· Attend and participate in community events, faculty and staff meetings, and professional development days.


· Native or near-native fluency in French and fluency in English are required; near-native fluency in Spanish preferred;

· 3-5 years of experience in French and Spanish instruction in a high school setting or equivalent experience required;

· M.A. in French/Francophone Literature preferred;

· Strong collaboration and team-oriented working and leadership skills;

· Ability to balance a pursuit of academic, artistic, and institutional excellence with compassion and nurture for each individual;

· Possess and exude a positive attitude, passion for teaching and learning, and a sense of humor!
