Conservatory Lab Charter School seeks a Director of El Sistema who is passionate about the El Sistema model, hands-on learning, and teaching and learning in symphony with colleagues.
We seek a Director who is skilled with developing, implementing, documenting, evaluating, and disseminating an international model of music-infused education. The El Sistema Director is committed to building a program that has local, national, and international impact and influence for improving outcomes for young people. The Director can balance community-oriented and school demands with the needs to work externally to promote the model more broadly.This is a senior level management and leadership position that reports to the CLCS principal and Chief Operating Officer
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
In collaboration with other leaders at CLCS, sets the vision, mission, and goals for El Sistema;
Collaborates with CLCS leadership team to implement schoolwide structures and routines;
Development of a K-8 curriculum for El Sistema Program that aligns with the mission of the school;
Work with other administrators to holistically weave El Sistema into the culture of all areas of the school;
Ensure that the El Sistema music standards are rigorous, measurable, and achievable;
Lead weekly professional learning for El Sistema staff;
Differentiate coaching for El Sistema teachers who have varying levels of experience with students;
Develop and implement proven procedures for the evaluation of the El Sistema Program;
Create and lead activities that are aligned with El Sistema and Expeditionary Learning;
Work collaboratively to inspire El Sistema staff to set high expectations for the community;
Recruit, hire, nurture, retain, and evaluate high quality staff;
Model and coach El Sistema staff on best practices including classroom management, collaboration, and differentiation for student learning;
Collaborate with CASto insure strategic planning to develop and disseminate best practices on a national and international scale;
Model best practices around student management in alignment with school’s policies and procedures for student conduct and discipline;
Coordinate schedules, transportation, and other logistics around performances and music activities;
Work to develop partnerships with community-based arts and music organizations;
Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues;
Collaborate with other administrators and teachers to promote school-wide activities and concerts; and
Participate in other duties as assigned.
Master’s in Education (preferably music)
Excellent writing and communication skills
Experience leading and working in urban schools
