Theater Marketing & Development Apprenticeship


Gloucester Stage is seeking eight young theater professionals interested in creative ownership, furthering their education, networking, and real world experience with the added support of residence and stipend support. Designed to be an optimal experience for recent college graduates, we build a strong ensemble in which every member has a voice and plays a role.

We accept interns in the following disciplines:

  • Directing

  • Youth Education

  • Stage Management (3 Positions Available)

  • Production Management

  • Scenic & Technical

  • Marketing & Development

Marketing/Development Apprentice

  • Marketing – Participate in planning and oversee at least one piece of the marketing mix (e.g. managing a college radio vendor, etc.)
  • Digital Content Creation – Helping to tell our mission impact story through promotional material and social media presence.
  • Fundraising & Stewardship – Participate in development planning and implementation (i.e. work with staff team on annual planning, events, process donation receipts, experience a sponsorship ask meeting, etc.)
  • Patron Building & Group Sales Coordination – Support the Marketing Director in identifying sales leads and connecting communities and schools with possible performance experiences
  • CRM Software – Learn Ovation Ticketing, a leading industry ticket software program, connected with Theatre Mania publication.
  • Database Management – Donor record maintenance and updating
  • Corporate Governance – Experience a Board of Directors meeting
  • Institutional Giving – Experience grant writing with opportunity to take responsibility for one complete grant from start to finish.
  • Reports to the Marketing & Development Director

What you can expect:

  • Weekly stipend of $100

  • A full-time, highly collaborative program

  • All applicants must be graduating / have graduated from a four-year college/university program. An emphasis in theater study is preferred. Willing to review applicants with special circumstances on a case by case basis.

    • Students finishing their Junior year and returning to classes in the Fall can adjust their internship to earlier in May and ending in August. This option is only available for Stage Management and Scenic/Technical Apprenticeships.
  • Must be positive, collaborative, hardworking, flexible theater makers with a deep passion for the work.

  • Weekend and evening availability is a must - this is a full-time program, you will not be able to work another job.

  • Computer literate, including Microsoft Word and Excel, and ready to learn.

  • Must have own transportation.
