Staff Accountant

Description:
The Staff Accountant is a key member of the ICA, interacting with all levels of the organization in the execution of their duties, which includes but are not limited to general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash reconciliation, payroll processing, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate must be able to work with confidential data, multi-task and have an aptitude for numbers.

Responsibilities

  • Processing daily cash receipts check deposits, pledge receivables, fixed assets, cash accounts, liabilities and reconciling to general ledger.
  • Maintain revenue and prepaids, reconcile daily credit card sales
  • Reconcile the monthly, quarterly and annual revenue from Development.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll; maintain employee time off accruals
  • Prepare, update and reconcile payroll fringe, statutory deductions and retirement plan.
  • Process payroll and fringe benefit journal entries.
  • Manage the full cycle MBTA pass program, review and process all monthly benefit expenses
  • Serve back up for Accounts Payable and maintenance of vendor payment files.
  • Prepare and record monthly fixed and variable journal entries to the general ledger.
  • Maintain schedules for annual audit, budget tracking and financial projections.
  • Assist with the preparation of Annual Budget and annual audit.
  • Prepare and distribute monthly revenue and expense reports, collaborate with departments on spending trends influencing their budgets.
  • Support the Controller and CFO with various projects as assigned
  • Monitor accounting controls and procedures in accordance to GAAP
  • Prepare and provide ad hoc reports as requested
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration or equivalent related experience working with G/L systems.
  • Previous experience working in a cultural institution or non-profit organization is preferred.
  • Must be detailed oriented and exhibit a demonstrated ability to work with numbers
  • Solid experience with MS Suite Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of non-profit accounting principles a definite plus
  • Familiarity with BlackBaud, Tessitura and Paycom software desired.
