Time commitment: 8-16 hrs / week


Organization Summary:

BLAA is a community arts organization that seeks to elevate the visibility of and provide resources to Boston area LGBTQIA artists. BLAA is dedicated to building community through exhibition opportunities, events, workshops, artist talks, performances, and other creative social outlets. We welcome all who identify under the LGBTQIA spectrum, or produce creative work that falls under these categories. BLAA seeks to act as a hub to bring LGBTQIA Boston area artists together.


BLAA’s core programming includes three group exhibitions a year that are hosted by various Boston area galleries. These are all organized via open calls. Each exhibition includes a potluck for participating artists to meet one another ahead of the reception; an opening reception; and some form of public programming (typically an artist talk or an art making workshop). In addition to these three group shows, BLAA partners with other organizations on a case-by-case basis to put on other arts-related events.


Job Summary:

The role of the BLAA’s Director is foremost to act as a convener and facilitator of communication between BLAA Committee members and all of our constituents. The director will plan and run monthly BLAA Committee meetings. The director will promote BLAA’s work to the larger Boston and New England community, and develop partnerships with other area organizations and galleries.


Overseeing the BLAA Committee:

-planning and facilitating monthly committee meetings

-overseeing the point person for each exhibition

-maintaining regular communications with the Committee and providing timely updates

-leading decision making processes for the organization


Organizing Exhibitions:

-leading the process for establishing themes and drafting open calls for each of our three annual group exhibitions

-establishing contact with area galleries/alternative spaces to secure locations for upcoming exhibitions and events

-overseeing the point person for each exhibition, who is responsible for overseeing all logistical concerns of confirmed gallery exhibitions and events


Communications:

-final oversight on the creation and distribution of outreach materials and website

-making updates to the website and to social media as needed


Strategy and Direction:

-ensuring that BLAA is following its mission

-envisioning future plans and growth for the organization

-working towards making BLAA more sustainable, whether that includes working towards 501c3 status, securing a fiscal sponsor, or other models



Qualifications:
The applicant should be highly motivated to be involved in the LGBTQIA general community and arts community. She/he/they should have a background in the arts as a practitioner or an academic/administrator, have strong communication skills, an outgoing nature, a desire to effect social change, and very strong organizational skills. Experience coordinating exhibitions is desirable but not mandatory.
