Research and Museum Assistant, part-time, hourly
Purpose: The Research and
Museum Assistant provides primarily weekend library and research assistance and
museum tours to History Center patrons and guests. This position is
shared with another Research and Museum Assistant, so a typical schedule is
two-three Saturdays/month, 6 hours/day, depending on scheduling. The History Center is open Saturdays 10am
to 4pm, however there may be times the Assistant opens earlier or stays later.
Occasional optional opportunities to staff the building during functions and
rentals weekday and weekend evenings and Sundays may arise.
Due to COVID-19
restrictions, the History Center and library is open by appointment only, so some
of the duties and responsibilities below are on hold until restrictions are
and guide library and archives researchers working onsite.

receptionist duties: greet guests and library patrons, answer phones, take
messages, and accept donations and book sales.
museum tours, as needed.
keys and security pass code, open museum and library during working hours.
as on-site staff for emergencies during working hours.
B.A. in history or humanities field, or some college experience in the same.
Experience: The Research and Museum Assistant will have
proven research experience, and a basic understanding of libraries, archives
and research techniques. It is preferred that the Research and Museum Assistant
have a solid background in American history, however an affinity for New
England and its history can substitute. In addition, since this is a customer
service position, the Research and Museums Assistant must be self-directed,
flexible and have good interpersonal skills.
