Box Office Manager


The Academy of Music Theatre seeks applications for the position of Box Office Manager, a part-time position.

The Box Office Manager is responsible for controlling all aspects of tickets sales for the Academy of Music Theatre. The Box Office Manager works closely with the Theater Manager, Executive Director, and renters of the Academy to make sure ticket sales are accurately set up and go live on time with accuracy, ticket revenue is balanced, and customer and renter concerns are addressed in a courteous and professional manner.

The Box Office Manager trains and supervises box office event personnel. This may include training new employees on computer software and online ticketing systems, box office policies and procedures, customer service best practices, and troubleshooting. The Box Office Manager works closely with this part-time staff to keep them updated on department developments, help with problem solving, and support their work environment.

The Box Office Manager responds to customer complaints and deals with any issues that arise at the ticket counter or via patron feedback.

Work activities include:

  • Undertaking the daily sales of tickets, managing held seats, arranging pre-sales, etc. and entering data as required
  • Working directly with Academy renters to build their events into the ticketing system and on the Academy website
  • Working directly with the ticketing agency to create new seating charts and fulfill other special requests as needed
  • Providing periodic reports, customer lists, and settlement information to Academy renters
  • Overseeing the box office cash drawer; reconciling end-of-shift revenue, preparing deposits, and maintaining records; and maintaining proper change for the cash drawer
  • Training and supervising part-time box office staff. Making sure that all staff is fully trained in the box office sales system, cash management, handling customer issues, and explaining and upholding policies regarding ticket sales
  • Managing and responding to patron complaints regarding any box office-related issues
  • Providing monthly zip code reporting for marketing analysis
  • Attending meetings related to the box office and/or general Academy staff
  • Undertaking any other responsibilities relating to ticketing services, as self-identified or requested

Preferred Qualifications:

  • · 2 years of relevant experience working in a box office environment
  • · Broad knowledge of box office protocols and procedures
  • · Excellent customer and client service skills
  • · Knowledge of online ticket sales platforms and credit card procedures
  • · Knowledge of social media platforms and WordPress websites
  • · Strong math and data skills


  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Extensive experience in a box office environment

The successful applicant must be available to work during the Academy’s standard box office hours, Tuesdays through Fridays from 2:30-6:00pm, as well as taking on the majority of event shifts (generally nights and weekends) in the box office. This is a full-year, hourly position with a regular administrative schedule and variable event schedule that averages 20-25 hours/week across the year and includes vacation benefits.
