Cambridge's Stitch Lounge, Gather Here is hiring camp instructors for summer 2020 and afterschool and weekend children's program
instructors for fall 2020! Gather Here is a fun and welcoming yarn,
fabric, and handcraft boutique and studio for the discerning
contemporary crafter, we offer afterschool, weekend, and school vacation sessions geared towards children interested in the fiber arts. We are looking for makers with experience working
with children age 7 to 14 with an in-depth knowledge of a variety of
handcrafts including but not
limited to: hand and machine sewing, knitting, crochet, embroidery, felting, and
patchwork. Experience working with a variety of fibers and different
skill levels is key. A strong vocabulary in the fiber arts is
essential. As is a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and social justice.
There may be other teaching opportunities working with evening and weekend instructors and assisting with pattern testing and samples.
Qualifications:
- Background in education preferred.
- Experience working with a variety of ages.
- Comfort with administrative duties.
- Ability to communicate sewing/fiber craft instructions in person and online (gather here is offering online learning in light of COVID-19).
- Experience in customer service and/or interacting with parents of young people.
To
be a part of our team you need to be a friendly, outgoing, problem
solver who is self-directed, detail oriented, flexible, punctual, and
able to stand for long periods of time. Your primary responsibility will
be to work with 6 to 8 students on a variety of projects to help expand
their fiber knowledge and skill set. All students regardless of age will use studio
equipment and safe maker practices are required.
Additional
responsibilities include operating a POS system for inventory used in
workshops, studio upkeep, receiving studio supplies, communicating with gather
here management, and chronicling completed projects. All of our employees should have a wealth of knowledge in
multiple crafts and experience multi-tasking.
