The mission of Convergence Ensemble is to present unusual chamber music programming by supporting a diverse group of musicians that engage local audiences, inspire local pride, and strengthen the connections between our various Boston neighborhoods. Convergence Ensemble musicians have primary commitments to larger, local institutions such as the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston University, New England Conservatory, and Longy School of Music of Bard College.
Convergence Ensemble productions will provide an outlet for area musicians to perform seldom heard instrumental and vocal works along with the classics of the chamber music literature. We program an expanded repertoire of works in order to connects with diverse and underserved audiences in the Boston area. Further, we seek a management framework to present these fully produced concerts throughout New England.
A medium-range goal is to develop educational outreach programs that have a long-term, meaningful impact our community’s young people. These programs encompass artist residencies that relate the chamber music being performed to the personal and academic lives of students (especially junior and senior high school students but we are open to college-aged audiences) through history, poetry, literature, dance, and visual art. By working with a number of artistic disciplines the programs will also explore performance-related issues, both in terms of technique and of communicating with an audience.
