Carpenter Museum Director

Description:

The Rehoboth Antiquarian Society seeks a director for the Carpenter Museum, a museum of local history housed in a reproduction 18th-century house and barn. This is a part-time position, averaging approximately 20-25 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends. The director reports to the Board of Trustees and heads a small staff including assistant director, research center manager, and volunteers. The director is responsible for the overall operations of the Museum, including regular openings, programs, and exhibits; collections care; writing for the newsletter and other publications; supervising staff and volunteers; communication with the Governing Board; overseeing the budget; and scheduling building use and necessary maintenance. The successful candidate will have excellent organizational and inter-personal skills, an attention to detail, and the ability to plan several months ahead, tackle a wide range of projects, and work with a variety of people. An understanding of museum management and collections care are required, along with an interest in local history and a passion for sharing it. Experience with PastPerfect software and with digital resources would be desirable. Qualifications:

Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in collections management

 Strong organizational and communications skills

 Enthusiasm for working both independently and collaboratively

 B.A. in Museum Studies, History, or a related field

 Familiarity with PastPerfect database software preferred
