Advancement Officer, Institutional & Leadership Giving

Description:
As the Advancement Officer, Institutional and Leadership Giving, you will be a member of New England Conservatory of Music’s (NEC) nimble and strategic Institutional Advancement team, reporting directly to the Director of Advancement: Major Gifts.
The Advancement Officer will independently qualify, cultivate, solicit, and close corporate sponsorships, foundation grants, and other philanthropic gifts of $1M+ annually, with a focus on commitments of $25,000 and above to benefit the NEC community. There will be a special concentration on developing and managing external relationships and creating new strategies for engaging and working with institutional donors, prospects, and partners. The Advancement Officer will use the Raiser’s Edge/NXT database to track and manage prospects and produce reports and analysis of this work, in coordination with Advancement colleagues.
  • Meet quarterly and annual fundraising goals as determined by the Director and Vice President of Institutional Advancement.
  • Create and implement an institutional outreach strategy built on moves management.
  • Build relationships with key corporate and other philanthropic contacts -- initiate, organize, and conduct activities designed to build and sustain strong external relationships.
  • Manage a dynamic portfolio of 75+ institutional giving-related prospects to meet NEC-wide goals, including sponsorship of the annual scholarship gala.
  • Conduct 4-6 monthly institutional prospect visits and provide data as part of prospect management tracking.
  • Maintain knowledge of corporate and foundation giving, business trends, and NEC’s programs in order to accurately and persuasively communicate investment options to current and prospective funders.
  • Ensure cultivation, recognition, and stewardship communication is maintained with key contacts and institutional supporters to foster investment, in coordination with IA colleagues including those in donor relations and those working on the annual gala.
  • Represent NEC in networks of philanthropic and corporate professionals, attending formal and informal gatherings as appropriate.
  • Maintain records in Raiser’s Edge Prospect Management or a similar prospect system, and provide reports and financial projections and results toward fundraising goals.
  • In collaboration with Director and Vice President of Advancement, build strong working relationships with other NEC departments.
  • Prepare reports, briefings materials, correspondence, proposals, and related documents for solicitation of institutional giving prospects.
  • Attend and staff events as required, including travel, weekend, and evening work.
  • Travel offsite when necessary, up to 20% of the time.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 5+ years of development/fundraising experience with track record of identifying, securing, managing, and renewing philanthropic corporate and foundation support.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% of the time is required.
  • Able to synthesize ideas and activities into coherent and compelling written narratives.
  • Accomplished relationship builder who can command the respect and response of colleagues, executives, and external partners.
  • Previous experience with Raiser’s Edge Prospect Management or a similar prospect system and metrics—compiling, analyzing and reporting data.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
