Summer Music Education Intern (PAID)
The New School of Music is seeking a music education intern for an 8-week
position, beginning July 1.
NSM is looking for an enthusiastic, dependable, and motivated individual. This
position offers a unique opportunity to work directly with the NSM teaching
staff in a number of different programs including musical theater, world
music, and general music programs. Intern will work directly in the class
with the program director and student participants. Opportunities to implement
lesson plans, learn classroom management skills, and become familiar with a
community music school setting will all be a part of this role. The intern will also be responsible for organizing and overseeing activities for extended day students.
This is a paid internship, requiring a commitment of 35-40 hours a week. Duties
may include: helping students one on one, aiding in supplemental group
activities, and assisting with the development of the final performances as
well as daily prep and clean-up. Intern will be expected to supervise students
in age groups ranging from 5-14 years old and interact with parents, staff,
faculty; strong interpersonal skills are a must.
Some program dates are still TBD but candidates must be available throughout the month of July.
Intern must have proven experience and confidence in working with youth
ages 5-14. Ability to play a musical instrument is a plus, as is a degree or degree-in-progress in music, theatre, or education.
Reliability and integrity are a must.
