Assistant Manager, Individual Giving for the Annual Funds

Description:

The Boston Symphony Orchestra has had a long tradition and commitment of bringing an array of musical experiences to the community and the world through our three brands - the BSO, Boston Pops and Tanglewood. The key to our success has been our employees from the musicians onstage to those behind the scenes. The Assistant Manager, Individual Giving for the Annual Funds is a key contributor to our Annual Funds team in supporting the mission of Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Reporting to the Associate Director, this position will have three key responsibilities: 1) Monitor, in conjunction with the Associate Director, a portfolio of Society donors (annual donors of $3,000 and above) totaling approximately 125 Boston Symphony and POPS households; 2) serve as critically important bridge between the Friends Program and Society Program; 3) act as the key Annual Funds team member conducting systematized and analytic prospecting. In this dynamic position, the Assistant Manager is a team player who must become well-versed in BSO’s patron and donor program based in Tessitura. This position must possess impeccable attention to detail, excellent relationship building skills, and a keen interest in data.


This position will also have no direct reports.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Tasks related to donors and annual fundraising activity:

? Monitor a portfolio of approximately 125 Boston and POPS Annual Funds Society donor households (donors who make annual gifts of $3,000+) and Society prospects. Relationships will focus on maintaining their society level giving or creating strategies for upgrading under the direction set by the Associate Director and input by the Manager.

? Under the direction of the Associate Director, coordinate a select number of Annual Fund Council members and their limited donor portfolios (the Annual Fund Councils are comprised of Board members and volunteers assisting with annual fundraising).

? Work closely to support the Associate Director and Manager to launch the Overture Society (annual giving program geared towards patrons 40 and younger).

? Work occasional evenings and weekends in support of concerts and engagement and stewardship events as needed.

? Assist Associate Director and Manager with Annual Funds events by pulling invitation lists, staffing, and executing post-event strategies set by Associate Director and Manager.


Tasks related to data and information systems:

? Working closely with colleagues in Donor Information Systems and under the direction of the Associate Director and Manager; create and execute methodologies and reports to identify likely prospects for Friends and Society giving.

? Oversee data for in-house Society mailings.

? Assist Associate Director as a clearinghouse for those Society donors who need to be assigned to a Staff Officer.

? Serve as key liaison between Annual Funds and Associate Director, Individual Giving in coordinating with Telephone Outreach team by preparing and reviewing shared data.


Qualifications:
BA/BS or equivalent. Minimum requirement: 4 - 5 years work experience including 2 years experience in Development. Experience with direct donor contact and relationship building. Skilled in MS Word and Excel, demonstrated facility in working with fundraising databases, Tessitura preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proven customer service or relationship-building skills demonstrating discretion and independent judgment. Detail oriented to ensure accuracy and high integrity. Ability to organize, prioritize, plan and meet competing deadlines in a timely manner. Must be flexible and team oriented and collaborative. Interest in and/or background in the arts.

The Boston Symphony Orchestra, Inc., was founded in 1881 and is comprised of major sub-organizations including Boston Symphony Orchestra, Tanglewood Music Center, Days in the Arts, Tanglewood Festival Chorus, the Boston Pops, Esplanade Pops, and the Chamber Players.

The Boston Symphony Orchestra performs in historic Symphony Hall from October through May under the direction of Maestro Andris Nelsons. The Boston Pops Orchestra, under conductor Keith Lockhart, performs in Symphony Hall during May and June in addition to, annual series Holiday Pops concerts in December. In July and August the orchestra performs at Tanglewood, its summer home in the magnificent Berkshires of western Massachusetts. The administrative offices of the BSO employ approximately 175 people.
