Photography/Fine Art Specialist
Skinner, New England’s leading auction house for antiques & fine art, seeks a Specialist with a concentration in photographs, as well as knowledge of American and European prints and paintings. This specialist will work as part of a team to appraiser, research, catalogue, and market works of art at auction.
The successful candidate should possess a deep knowledge of Western art from the various cultures and periods and solid work experience in academia, retail, or auction. She or he should be demonstrably highly organized and bring a dynamic skill set and a consistent work ethic to the job. Candidates should speak to their ability to encourage new business opportunities, especially regarding the expansion of Skinner’s photography markets, and liaising with both consignors and buyers regarding all aspects of the auction process. Some evening and weekend hours necessary. Polished interpersonal and computer skills are integral to this position; reading knowledge of French, German and/or Italian would be beneficial. Though self-motivated, she or he will need to work well in a team, and with flexibility and creativity in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate should possess 2-5 years experience in appraising and cataloging fine art in an auction house, gallery, museum or related field. Computer proficiency, including Word and database programs. Knowledge of auction house software and systems a plus.
