Music Teaching Artist

Description:

In partnership with the Henderson Inclusion School, VSA MA COOL Schools seeks an experienced music educator for a part-time (13 60 min. classes/week) Maternity Leave position from January 2nd, 2019-apx. April 30th, 2019 with some additional paid planning sessions. The music teaching artist will join a community of teachers, learners, and leaders committed to the vision of achievement of academic excellence for students of all abilities, equal access to high levels of instruction and support high quality arts instruction for all students as a necessary component of creating and sustaining an inclusive learning environment.

While this person works most directly and routinely with staff and students at the Henderson, they are employed by VSA MA and obligated to fulfill HR and professional development processes as put forth by COOL Schools.


Job Responsibilities:
  • Teach weekly music (vocal & instrumental) to 13 classes of students in grades 2nd-6th

  • Design and execute inclusive curriculum specific to assets and needs of classroom

  • Collaborate with school team to direct and produce programs for school assemblies and cultural celebrations (including an end of year musical).

  • Submit project/curriculum overview and student progress to COOL Schools Learning Narrative (internal online curriculum and documentation platform)

  • Participate in VSA COOL Schools orientation, Professional Development (twice per year) and end of year celebration

  • Participate in planning meetings and communicate regularly with all team members

  • Submit bi-weekly payment and reimbursement vouchers on time to VSA MA

Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated expertise in music along with a strong ongoing arts practice

  • Minimum of two years experience teaching school-aged children in a public school setting

  • Educator’s disposition that values documentation, assessing student learning and commitment to ongoing professional development

  • Experience working with high school and early childhood students with disabilities and English Language Learners

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with school partners and COOL staff
