Teaching Students with Disabilities (3 credits)

Thursday 6:30pm-9:10pm, Additional Online Component


Position Description


This course will introduce the historical, legal, and social aspects of special needs education in the United States. Aspects of physical, social, emotional and sensory needs as well as giftedness will be discussed. The goal of the course will be to understand how these special needs can be integrated in pedagogical strategies and daily classroom reality with a focus on art education. Field observations will complement the coursework along with lectures, discussion and small group work. Assessments will be designed to connect to students’ interests and include reading assignments, fieldwork journals and reports, oral presentations and a research paper.

Qualifications:

Requirements


MA, MS, M.Ed. or higher, and significant and relevant professional experience in working with students with disabilities. One to three years of higher education teaching experience preferred.


Additional Requirements


Position takes place in an educational environment; manual dexterity to use computers is required. The ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
