Associate Director of Development

Join a team that uses the wisdom gained from history, literature, philosophy, and related fields to improve our civic culture and strengthen our democracy. Mass Humanities, a statewide grant making and programming organization affiliated with the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Massachusetts Cultural Council, seeks a part-time Associate Director of Development. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of nonprofit fundraising experience, strong interest in the humanities, excellent oral/written communication skills, and the capacity to develop and implement Mass Humanities’ fundraising strategy. This includes: (1) the annual Governor’s Awards in the Humanities benefit dinner; (2) segmented annual appeals; (3) creative and engaging donor cultivation and stewardship; and (4) local foundation grant applications. The Associate Director of Development will work closely with the Director of Development & Communications, the Executive Director and the board of directors.

  • Minimum 3 years of nonprofit annual fundraising experience
  • Experience in managing events, preferably benefit dinners
  • History of success in adding annual fund donors and increasing their giving over time
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with staff, volunteers, and donors.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with donor databases; knowledge of Raiser’s Edge a plus
  • Familiarity with major donor moves management and donor-centric fundraising
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize projects and meet deadlines
  • Deep understanding and enthusiasm of the humanities
  • Proven track record in identifying and procuring foundation and corporate grants
