Museum Educator, Harvard Museum of Natural History


Seeking part-time museum educator (apx 17 hours/week) to work primarily with our school field trip programming inside the Harvard Museum of Natural History. The educator will teach science programs to visiting school groups, offer orientations to school and youth groups, provide daily live animal care, and support the overall field trip experience. The educator will work within the education team with opportunities to learn from colleagues and contribute to the work of the department with additional duties as assigned. Visiting school groups range from preschool to high school but are primarily elementary students. This position is part time, approximately 17 hours per week with a start date of January 7, 2019. Typical hours will be Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 8:30am to 2:30pm with some flexibility. The position is not eligible for benefits.


Required: Teaching experience with K-8 audiences in schools or informal settings. Understanding of and commitment to student-centered learning. Position requires the ability to lift up to 20 pounds. A background check is required prior to a job offer.

Candidates should have a science knowledge base in biology, environmental science, geology or a related field. Candidates should also have experience teaching youth in a group setting, excellent oral communication skills, commitment to working as part of a team, and the ability to multi-task and adjust to changing situations.
