The Film/Video Department at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt) invites applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position beginning in September 2019.

The Film/Video Department is committed to educating the next generations of creative and engaged citizen-artists. Students are challenged to think critically and open-mindedly, experiment widely and find their own paths as moving image artists. Encompassing a wide and ever-expanding range of media, the Film/Video curriculum gives students the freedom to realize their own vision in its ideal form. Film/Video students are consistently challenged to create new forms of viewing experiences that are personal, political, conceptual, abstract, visceral and visionary.
MassArt is primarily a teaching institution and the successful candidate is expected to be fully able to teach foundational, intermediate and advanced core production and hybrid courses.
The Film/Video Faculty at MassArt seek a colleague who is committed to excellence in teaching. The ideal candidate will continue to develop pedagogy that encompasses different learning styles, keep up with evolving technologies, promote a culture of inclusion that embraces diverse student demographics, and deepen students’ understanding of and appreciation for diversity.
Along with excellence in teaching, the successful candidate will be expected to maintain a distinctive and successful creative personal practice.
He/she will be required to contribute significantly to departmental duties including curriculum development, academic advising and portfolio reviews; mentoring students; welcoming and orienting accepted students and attending weekend student shows. In addition, tenure-track faculty are expected to participate in shared governance through college-wide committee work while upholding standards of professorial excellence consistent with the mission of Massachusetts College of Art and Design.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
An MFA or equivalent with a substantial record of achievement and significant competency in a personal Film/Video-related arts practice.
Proven record of diverse and inclusive content in courses taught.
Well-versed in experimental moving image work, world cinemas and critical discourse.
Technical skills necessary to teach a diverse range of moving image production classes.
Experience teaching at the college level.
The Film/Video Department is especially interested in practitioners who demonstrate a commitment to social justice issues and historically underrepresented groups.
The Film/Video Department seeks a candidate with an advanced time-based media practice in one or more of the following: film, video, audio, installation, expanded cinema, and new genres/new media.
