Founded in 1881, the Boston Symphony Orchestra
(BSO) is one of the foremost orchestras in the world. The BSO is committed to bringing world class

from the musicians onstage to those behind the scenes. We currently have an
opening in the Human Resources department for a Human Resources Generalist.
the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Generalist will perform a
broad range of day-to-day Human Resources duties including benefits
administration, compensation, HRIS, employment and training and development.
Manage the following employee benefit programs:
403(b), health, dental, HSA, FSA, life and long-term disability insurance,
workers’ compensation as well as other benefits. Process and communicate
enrollments, terminations and status changes to payroll.
Provide comprehensive onboarding to new
employees. Provide benefits counseling
and review policies and procedures.
Manage COBRA and retiree benefits. Ensure timely and accurate enrollments,
terminations and invoicing.
Process and reconcile group insurance invoices
(e.g., health, dental, life, disability, unemployment).
Administer Family Medical Leaves and Workers’
Compensation document preparation. Maintain and track leaves.
Support Associate Director during annual
projects such as open enrollment or annual reviews. As necessary, complete compensation surveys.
Participate in recruitment management - assist
hiring managers with search plans, screen candidates, interview and conduct
Assist Tanglewood hiring managers with the
seasonal hires by preparing offer letters, processing appropriate forms,
etc. Responsible for the coordination
and update of the Tanglewood Guide and Staff Address list.
Assist the HR Director in policy research and
development. Update policies and
Oversee and manage Human Resources related
events including the staff service awards, new hire breakfasts and tours. Act as liaison with caterers; and handle
communication regarding special events.
Maintain department database and logs. Keep confidential employee information
current; design and run reports using HRIS and Excel. Ensure data integrity.
Participate in a range of HR initiatives such
as employee engagement, diversity, rewards and recognition, and training and
Assist with other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years
of related experience preferably in a non-profit setting. Exercise good judgement and diplomacy, and
have the ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information. Knowledge of principles and procedures for HR
strategic and functional areas:
compensation and benefits, leave administration, recruitment, HRIS,
training, and organizational development. In-depth knowledge of federal and
state laws and regulations related to Human Resources. (i.e., ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, Workers
Compensation and labor laws.) Ability to
prioritize own work as needed. Strong
organizational skills, analytical and problem-solving abilities and attention
to detail. Excellent interpersonal and
communication skills, both oral and written.
Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) experience, ADP
preferred. Familiarity with MS Office
suite. Exceptional customer service
skills. Event planning skills. Relocating
to Tanglewood, the summer home of the BSO, may be required for part of each
summer. Per-diem provided.
