Part-time Performance Arts Coordinator

Position Summary:

Join a dynamic team dedicated to using arts, cultural, and education to bridge communities and neighborhoods at the Pao Arts Center, a unique community-based cultural arts center in its early years of operation. The Pao Arts Center, a cross-sector partnership between Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center (BCNC) and Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) uses arts, culture, and education to encourage community dialogue. Working with and under the supervision of the Director of the Pao Arts Center, the Coordinator plays a vital role in the visioning and implementation of performance and placemaking vision of the center. Specific responsibilities include curating original programming, managing third party programming, overseeing logistics for performance programs and rentals, and representing the center both on site and at special events and meetings. In addition, there will be opportunities for the Coordinator to work collaboratively with the Director on program ideas and creation. This is a part time position (20 hours a week, evening and weekend hours required).


? Oversee smooth day-to-day operations at the center, as well as during programs and events;

? Oversee Associate & event staff and interns in support of rentals, and programs;

? Develop and implement policies and adjust practices to ensure strong facilities management systems such as scheduling, space booking, contracting, accountability, and more;

? Manage special events, BCNC internal programming and third-party rentals in the theater,

? Generate leads for rentals at the Pao Arts Center;

? Coordinate with BCNC’s Operations Department, in management of the facilities, IT, and other operations needs of the center to ensure a professional, best-in-class arts and performance facility;

? Develop and implement arts programming, specifically to support AAPI performance artists and art as part of the Pao Arts Center’s “Chinatown Presents” series including curation,program assessment and evaluation, data collection, outreach, recruitment and reaching revenue goals;

? Collaborate with Director and other BCNC staff to promote events, programs and venue opportunities;

? Collaborate with Director to create original placemaking and outdoor programming as resources allow;

? Network with AAPI arts organizations; and

? Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.


About the Pao Arts Center:

Through arts, culture, and education, the Pao Arts Center brings together community members across generations to reclaim a critical piece of Chinatown history to create healthy families and vibrant community. In partnership with Bunker Hill Community College, BCNC opened the Pao Arts Center in 2017 to be Chinatown’s first community-based arts center and Boston’s newly dedicated Asian American and Asian immigrant cultural space.

Qualifications:

Skills and Experience Required:

· Interest in the performing arts, social justice, and community building

· Two years in a performance/theater setting with an interest in programming

· Demonstrated ability to manage multifaceted projects on deadline

· Experience supervising staff, interns, and/or volunteers

· Availability to work evenings and weekends

· Excellent organizational and prioritization skills

· Positive attitude

· Friendly and welcoming demeanor; enjoy working with the public

· Proven track record of reliability and punctuality

· High-level of communication, customer service, and public relations skills

· Ability for efficiency, grace, and tact during high public traffic cycles

· Ability to adapt to changing situations, multitask

· Creative thinker and problem solver

· Ability to conduct tasks simultaneously with grace and ease

· Proficiency in Cantonese or Mandarin a plus

· Experience with theatrical lighting and AV a plus

· Experience working with immigrant communities a plus.
