Associate Director of Individual Giving

Description:
Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras (BYSO) firmly believes in the power of high-quality classical music experiences to change lives. At BYSO, students receive a transformative music education through our nationally-renowned orchestras and outreach programs- an education that is rooted in excellence develops life-long skills such as self-confidence, team-work and leadership.
To support these efforts, BYSO is seeking a motivated, experienced fundraiser to carry out the organization’s robust annual giving program (including annual fund and leadership gifts), alumni relations plan, planned giving strategy and oversight of BYSO’s annual spring gala. This individual will be a part of a growing team of fundraisers that supports BYSO’s expanding operations and will manage one full-time employee and one or two part-time employees to carry out this work.
A successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge of the non-profit sector, understand the cycle of donor research, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, have experience in building and managing a donor plan, and will be comfortable and confident with face to face solicitations of $1,000+. This individual will bring a creative energy that will manifest in ideas, thoughtful strategy and the skills to implement them completely.
The Associate Director of Individual Giving will work closely with volunteers, committees and staff members to raise nearly $400,000 annually for BYSO’s Annual Fund. Additionally, s/he will spearhead the Development team in raising $350,000 through the Annual Gala. This individual will also manage a targeted portfolio of donors requiring front-facing solicitations. S/He will have excellent verbal and writing skills, and will be able to focus on big picture ideas as well as the many details of project management and supervising staff to carry out direct mailings, e-communications, event details, volunteer coordination, donor acknowledgement and gift processing.
This senior level position reports directly to the Director of Development but will work very closely with all members of the Development and larger BYSO teams. This position will manage a full-time Development Associate to assist in this work.
The BYSO is a positive, dynamic, inclusive and nurturing environment for both our student population and our staff. With very rigorous fundraising goals, and an open mind about how to reach them, the BYSO offers a tremendous opportunity for a motivated fundraiser.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree? Minimum of 4 years professional experience in development, stewardship, advancement services or related? At least one year of event planning experience? Excellent writing skills? Proficient (or highly adaptable) in using Raiser’s Edge or similar donor database software? Previous experience interacting with donors or other high net worth individuals?
