Press Office Assistant at Boston Symphony Orchestra

  • Maintain press coverage records, both online and hard copy. Research and file reviews and articles from a variety of sources. Track and file relevant television and radio coverage.

  • Assist with administrative and organizational duties on behalf of the Press Office.

  • Research and update guest artist bios and photos; working with artist PR contacts and other online research tools to define current facts of interest beyond what appears in the bios.

  • Update and expand media contacts database, including print, broadcast, and online journalists. Create press lists for individual events, tours, and announcements using Cision database and online research.

  • Assemble press kits for press conferences, special events, tours, and general use. Gather relevant photos and video for press kits and special coverage as needed.

  • Set up and format press releases and other press materials in Dreamweaver and Mail2.

  • Assist with the supervision of still and video photographers and news crews at performances and rehearsals as needed.

  • Perform a variety of general office duties including ordering office supplies, maintaining office equipment and a clean office environment, and sorting and distributing all incoming mail.


QUALFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent required. Degrees in English, Marketing and Communications, Journalism or Public Relations preferred. 1 - 2 year of prior work experience. Excellent time and project management skills with an ability to manage multiple high level projects simultaneously. Ability to work with minimum supervision and exercise independent judgment.Strong attention to detail, customer service focus and interpersonal skills. Ability to deal with all levels of individuals.Excellent written and oral communication skills. General proficiency in word-processing and database administration required; knowledge of Power Point and Excel highly desirable. General proficiency with Photoshop required; knowledge of Dreamweaver preferred.Collaborative team player who interacts successfully and professionally with colleagues and external constituents. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and sensitivity.

About this Organization:
The Boston Symphony Orchestra, Inc., was founded in 1881 and is comprised of major sub-organizations including Boston Symphony Orchestra, Tanglewood Music Center, Days in the Arts, Tanglewood Festival Chorus, the Boston Pops, Esplanade Pops, and the Chamber Players.

The Boston Symphony Orchestra performs in historic Symphony Hall from October through May under the direction of Maestro Andris Nelsons. The Boston Pops Orchestra, under conductor Keith Lockhart, performs in Symphony Hall during May and June in addition to, annual series Holiday Pops concerts in December. In July and August the orchestra performs at Tanglewood, its summer home in the magnificent Berkshires of western Massachusetts. The administrative offices of the BSO employ approximately 175 people.
