Middle School Theatre Teacher and Director
Founded by George Washington Copp Noble in 1866, Noble and Greenough School is a rigorous academic community dedicated to motivating and inspiring students to achieve their highest potential and to lead lives characterized by service to others. A co-educational, non-sectarian school for students in grades seven (Class VI) through twelve (Class I), Nobles has a current enrollment of just over 600 students including approximately 50 five-day boarders.
Nobles seeks to hire a qualified candidate to join our performing arts department and serve as middle school theatre teacher and director. This person would also work extensively in our upper school theatre program. Leadership and middle school teaching experience as well as a BA, BFA, or MFA (or equivalent professional experience) in theatre are strongly preferred.
We are looking for an experienced professional to design and implement middle school theatre curriculum, teach our middle school theatre courses, and select and direct a play with our middle school students. The candidate will also teach high school theatre courses, in addition to selecting and directing a mainstage play with upper school students. A successful candidate would bring new ideas and experiences to Nobles theatre and contribute to the theatre program, performing arts department, and school at large.
Strong candidates should relish the collaborative process, while excelling at designing theatre curricula. They should enjoy mentoring, leading dramatic exercises, classes, and rehearsals with young people. The middle school theatre teacher and director should successfully balance the ability to create boldly ambitious work with an emphasis on student needs and the learning process. Candidates should exhibit strong written, oral, organizational and time-management skills.
Experience in one or more area(s) of theatrical design would strengthen one’s application.
All members of our department have a strong voice in what we produce and how we produce it, and this newest member of our Nobles Theatre Collective faculty will be no exception. Successful candidates should be passionate about New York, regional, and local theatre.
We seek candidates who would bring a desire for ongoing professional improvement, a diversity of backgrounds and experiences, and a demonstrated commitment to young people. Nobles has a longstanding commitment to diversity and takes pride in ensuring that this is reflected within our faculty.
