Conservatory Lab Charter School Foundation and Center for Artistry and Scholarship
Conservatory Lab Charter School (CLCS) is a public charter school that serves 444 students in two locations in Dorchester, MA. Founded in 1999, CLCS empowers a diverse range of children (Pre K-Grade 8) as artists and scholars. CLCS’s unique model fuses Expeditionary Learning (EL Education), El Sistema musical education, and social-emotional wellness. CLCS was the first school in the nation to implement El Sistema within the school day, and our students perform in venues and communities throughout Boston. CLCS students also engage with the community through inquiry-driven learning expeditions.
TheCenter for Artistry and Scholarship (CAS) is a nonprofit organization founded to support CLCS. CAS serves as an outreach arm for disseminating the CLCS learning model. CAS also promotes arts infusion in education and creative approaches to developing leaders in schools and youth-focused nonprofits.
TheConservatory Lab Charter School Foundation (CLCS Foundation) is a nonprofit organization that acts in service to the school. The Foundation also collaborates with CAS. The Foundation cultivates support for each of these innovative organizations and promotes them to ensure sufficient resources and recognition for sustainability and expansion so more students can learn from and with an arts-infused, inquiry driven curriculum in a safe and supportive school.
Reporting to the Executive Director of the CLCS Foundation and CAS, the Director of Annual Fund serves as a key leadership team member and an active participant in strategic decisions affecting CLCS. In partnership with the Executive Director and the Board of Trustees, the Director of Annual Fund is responsible for managing all annual fund-related fundraising and development activities. The successful candidate will be able to retain and grow funding from current constituents while forging new relationships to build the school’s visibility, impact, and financial resources. The Director of Annual Fund will also design and implement a comprehensive annual fund plan for developing key external alliances by cultivating individual and institutional philanthropic support.
The Director of Annual Fund is responsible for establishing and implementing the infrastructure needed to bolster the established annual fund programs, growing these critical revenue streams through the solicitation of annual fund gifts, major gifts, corporate and foundation support, and special events.
The Director of Annual Fund will expand and diversify the school’s donor base and work closely with other team members to secure annual fundraising goals. In addition, the Director will partner with members of the Board of Trustees, supporting them as they take on a more active fundraising role. The Director of Annual Fund is supported by a Development Associate, a Communications Associate, and a Special Projects Coordinator responsible for external relations. The Director of Annual Fund will also partner closely with the Executive Director of CAS/CLCS Foundation and the Director of Capital Campaign to move our collective mission forward.
Specific responsibilities include:
Lead efforts to cultivate, solicit, and steward current donor pool, growing support through relationship building and thoughtful solicitation approaches
Identify prospective individual donors, and cultivate, solicit, and steward these new donors to create a robust donor pipeline
Develop and launch a formalized major giving program
Plan and execute an integrated annual appeal campaign
Facilitate board involvement in the fundraising process
Oversee proper acknowledgement, stewardship, and reporting on annual gifts
Lead efforts to cultivate, solicit, and steward current institutional donors, growing support through thoughtful solicitation approaches
Identify prospective institutional donors, and cultivate, solicit, and steward these supporters
Oversee the necessary research, writing, and submission of foundation, corporate, and government grant proposals and reports
Provide direction and support to the Board of Trustees for annual donor cultivation and fundraising events, donor-initiated fundraising events, and all remaining fundraising/friend-raising events
Oversee donor database systems and record-keeping procedures to identify and track current and potential donors and their solicitors, and record, report, and acknowledge all gifts
Provide regular progress reports covering all aspects of organizational fundraising
Support the Director of Capital Campaign to execute the Capital Campaign
