Staff Accountant


The Staff Accountant is responsible for general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash reconciliation, and financial reporting functions


  • Process daily cash receipts and check deposits
  • Record, post and reconcile daily credit card sales
  • Maintain pledge receivables, fixed assets, cash accounts, liabilities and reconcile schedules to the general ledger
  • Maintain revenue schedules as assigned including sales tax, performance tax, credit card fees
  • Prepare prepaid and accrued liability schedules monthly.
  • Reconcile payroll fringe, statutory deductions and retirement plan; process payroll and fringe benefit journal entries.
  • Prepare and provide ad hoc reports as requested.
  • Prepare and record monthly fixed and variable journal entries to the general ledger
  • Serve as primary back up for accounts payable processing and maintenance of vendor payment files.
  • Maintain schedules for annual audit, budget tracking and financial projections.
  • Prepare reports to reconcile the monthly, quarterly and annual contributed revenue with the Development team.
  • Run and distribute monthly departmental revenue, expense reports and detailed general ledger reports.
  • Assist with preparation for annual audit.
  • Support the Controller and CFO with various projects as assigned
  • Monitor accounting controls and procedures in accordance to GAAP
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration or 4 years related experience working with G/L systems.
  • Previous experience working in a cultural institution or non-profit organization is preferred.
  • Prior experience with contributed revenue and performance ticket sales a plus.
  • Must be detailed oriented and exhibit a demonstrated ability to work with numbers
  • Excellent Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills are required.
  • Possess knowledge of non-profit accounting principles and software packages (Financial Edge, Tessitura, Paycom) is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Must be able to communicate accounting principles to non-accounting professionals
