Development Assistant

Description:
The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation’s Development Department seeks to hire five new development professionals at an exciting time in the institution’s expansion. In 2017, the JFK Library commemorated the Centennial birth of President Kennedy with local and national programs including a capstone event honoring President Barrack Obama with the Profile in Courage Award. Building from that success, the Foundation is currently developing a new strategic plan to advance its mission by introducing President Kennedy’s legacy of bold leadership and public service to new audiences. As part of the new strategic plan, the Foundation will partner next year with major national corporations and government agencies such as NASA to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Moon landing. This work will require a team excited and committed to successfully raising the funds needed for operating support as well as new initiatives and other planned special events. When hiring is complete, the Kennedy Library Foundation’s Development Department will comprise ten fundraising professionals led by a seasoned Vice President of Development who has led the Foundation’s fundraising efforts for the last seven years.


Reporting to the Vice President of Development, the Development Assistant will support the fundraising operations for the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation’s Development Department. Duties comprise entering gifts, maintaining donor files, providing events support and staffing administrative support to entire Development team. Some weekend and evening hours are required. Specific duties include but are not limited to:


  • Ensuring accuracy and consistency of Raiser’s Edge fundraising database
  • Processing donations and updating constituent records as needed
  • Preparing reports for and reconciling records with the Finance Department
  • Serving as one of the first points of contact for all donor inquiries
  • Assisting with preparing Development staff for meetings
  • Preparing Development portion of monthly E-News
  • Maintaining accurate and updated electronic and paper files
  • Initiating the donor acknowledgment process
  • Drafting correspondence and reports as requested
  • Updating department webpages
  • Staffing special events and meetings and assisting with department event preparations, including collecting R.S.V.Ps, preparing registration lists and name badges, as well as other materials. Events include but are not limited to The May Dinner, the Kennedy Library Foundation’s annual fundraising gala; Development events associated with select Kennedy Library Forums; New Frontier Network receptions and Profiles in Service breakfasts; Development Committee Meetings; and Board of Advisors Annual Meeting
Qualifications:
  • Must possess superb organizational skills and be detail-oriented with demonstrated interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Ideal candidate has a strong work ethic and is comfortable in a small, fast-paced, team-orientated work environment
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills required
  • Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge or similar fundraising database a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree and prior experience in an office setting required, experience in Development preferred
