Marketing Associate


The Marketing Associate will be responsible for coordinating, organizing, and assisting with various aspects of the Marketing department’s overall strategy with a primary emphasis on the museum’s digital communications platforms (social media, eNews, web, etc.). The Marketing Associate will also be responsible for having an overall understanding of ICA exhibitions, collection, performances, and programming, as well as ICA branding


  • Working with the Director of Creative Content, the marketing associate will organize and execute a comprehensive digital marketing plan across multiple platforms such as social media, eNews, website, and digital advertising, create innovative social media initiatives and campaigns to boost online audiences and participation across the institution
  • Assist with initiatives and campaigns to focus on building online audiences through storytelling, dialogue, and engagement with works of art and programs, create and manage promoted content on social media platforms in partnership with the Director of Marketing, Director of Creative Content, and digital marketing agency
  • Collaborate with Director of Creative Content to manage image and video needs for web, social media, and other marketing initiatives; organize photo shoots (hiring photographers/videographers/editors and managing logistics); and clear rights with museum staff and/or artists and galleries as necessary
  • Plan and execute ICA eNews, aligning eNews calendar with the overall marketing strategy for exhibitions, programs, membership, and other initiatives. Serve as point of contact for internal constituents, overseeing list management and funneling content as needed
  • Partner with the Director of Creative Content to build readership through innovative content ideas, strong graphics, and targeted messaging toward segmented lists. Direct Marketing Assistant in execution of eNews
  • Under the direction of the Director of Creative Content, update and maintain, use social media, eNews, and digital marketing to raise awareness of ICA content and drive web traffic. Ensure all pages within the site are current and accurate.
  • Monitor digital analytics (eNews, website, social media) and provide monthly reports to key marketing stakeholders
  • Monitor digital trends in the museum market—review websites, sign up for eNews, follow and engage on social media
  • Collaborate with the Special Events staff in planning meetings, writing invitation copy, creating event collateral, promoting events on web, eNews, and social media, and staffing for First Fridays
  • Edit or write various institutional collateral and communications as needed
  • Hire, train, and supervise departmental interns
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field, a minimum of two years’ experience strongly preferred
  • Possess an understanding of marketing strategies and a background in the arts
  • Previous experience creating social media campaigns with a proven track record of building online audiences
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; the ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Must be able to effectively manage multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously
  • Must have excellent computer skills; command of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Previous experience with content management systems and basic photo editing desired
  • Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Bilingual Spanish/English language fluency a plus
