Assistant Director of Engagement, Alumni Relations


The Assistant Director of Engagement, Alumni Relations works as an integral member of the engagement team spearheading all aspects of alumni engagement at New England Conservatory to further connect NEC alumni back to the Conservatory, implementing and overseeing strategic vision, communication schedules, and planning and execution of alumni events.


  • The Assistant Director of Engagement, Alumni Relations reports to the Director of Advancement: Engagement and Board Relations, and is responsible for developing engagement programming for all-alumni related events, including local, regional and virtual events.
  • Execute a multi-layered communications plan for NEC alumni, including event programming and outreach, social media, and Conservatory updates.
  • Serve as a campus partner with NEC faculty and staff, representing the alumni community.
  • Specific responsibilities include working closely with NEC alumni in all appropriate event-related matters various capacities, including recruiting and managing volunteer programs, including the Alumni Association. Further, establishes policies and procedures for volunteers involved in events.
  • Establishes and adheres to event standards and timelines necessary to plan and deliver successful programs and events, including researching and securing event venues and catering contracts for regional event programming; coordinating event logistics, including budget management, and event invite mailing/emailing.
  • Attend live events in outreach and administrative roles, both locally and regionally.
  • Consistently tracks engagement team metrics, to benchmark important data points that will impact future events and programming.
  • Work as a member of the Institutional Advancement team on other tasks as assigned.
  • This position requires a Bachelors’ degree for the entry level Assistant Director, experience with alumni relations, event planning, development or other related work experience is preferable.
  • Exceptional interpersonal customer service skills, proven success in detailed planning and budget management and excellent oral and written communication skills, including the insight to convey information effectively verbally and in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members, campus partners, volunteers, and external constituencies.
  • Must be highly motivated and goal driven, with a strong sense of ownership of programmatic responsibilities.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, project management, and critical thinking skills and the ability to multi-task, prioritize, exercise good judgement, and work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Strong computer skills and comfort level with Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and preferred experience using databases, engagement platforms, Raiser’s Edge or other CRM.
  • Ability and willingness to work nights, weekends, and to travel as required.
