Job Summary:

BB&N is seeking full-time, one year visual arts teacher for elementary aged children.

The visual arts teacher should have:

  • An understanding of how to use the visual arts to expand on the thoughts and ideas of the students.
  • A working knowledge of interdisciplinary curriculum and how it can be used as a vehicle for students to engage in deep investigations around meaningful content.
  • Be knowledgeable about diversity, equity, and inclusion practices and the impact it has on the curriculum and the community.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, teaching visual arts to elementary aged children, collaborating with other specialists and homeroom teachers, curriculum development, leading/co-leading a group during Affinity Lunch, report writing and conferencing with families, ordering materials, and budget management, and attending Back to School Nights.


The ideal candidate should have a minimum of three years teaching experience at the elementary level, an understanding of cognitive and social development for children at this age, and a strong knowledge of different mediums of materials which include the use of woodworking and knowing how to use the machinery that accompanies creating with wood. In addition, candidates should be well-versed in interdisciplinary curriculum, project work, and anti-bias curriculum. A Master’s degree in elementary education is preferred.

· Warmth and a sense of humor

· Ability to collaborate with colleagues

· Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents

· Curriculum design experience

· High standards of professional conduct
