Art Teacher: School Partner Program, Grades K-8

Part-time Position

The Brookline Arts Center (BAC) is seeking an art teacher to work with children grades K-8 for several School Partnership classes this winter. The teacher will be responsible for providing overall class goals and objectives, developing class content and curriculum and providing a nurturing environment for students.

Classes are offered as follows:

ART MEDLEY (grades K-2)

Mondays (8 wks), Jan 28-Mar 25 (No class 2/18)

2:40-3:40pm at Baker School

Let your creativity loose with the opportunity to try a variety of materials and art styles! Children experiment in sculpture, printmaking, painting and more for unique and exciting creations.


Wednesdays (9 wks), Jan 23-Mar 27 (No class Feb 2/20)

2:40-3:40pm at Baker School

Students learn the fundamentals of cartooning and various approaches to visual storytelling by looking at the work of published cartoonists. Students have the opportunity to develop their own narrative. By the end of class, each student develops a working knowledge of character creation, environment design, page layout and visual storytelling.

WHAM! POW! ART! (grades K-2)

Thursdays (8 wks), Jan 10-Mar 7 (No class 2/21)

2:40-3:40pm at Driscoll School

In this class students will explore the world of comic book art through a variety of projects involving drawing, painting and mixed media. We will bring our own characters to life, create heroes and villains and learn about storytelling, paneling and animation!

ANIMATION (grades 6-8)

Fridays (8 wks) Jan 25-Mar 22

3:00-4:30pm at the Brookline Teen Center

In this class, we will develop characters and comics with a three-dimensional twist! Students will bring their drawn characters to life using sculpey clay, found materials and sewing techniques. They will then have the opportunity to experiment with short stop-motion animation of their creations.

  • Excellent knowledge of child development.
  • Experience teaching and creating curriculum for grades K-8.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of general safety rules and basic first aid.
  • Professional and patient.
  • Ability to interact with and engage children and families.
  • Ability to work effectively in teams and individually.
  • Knowledge of art materials and general care of studio space.
  • Ability to travel to offsite locations.

  • MA in Art Education preferred or equivalent work experience.
