Community Outreach Coordinator

Description:

The Community Outreach Coordinator is an integral part of the ICA’s youth outreach educational efforts in the greater Boston community. The ideal candidate will be the administrative coordinator and lead visual arts teacher for the ICA’s WallTalk program for 7th-12th grade students. Wall Talk encourages students through close observation, open discussion, and individual connections to contemporary art through writing, visual art, and spoken word. The Coordinator provides administrative, logistical and programming support to ICA partnerships with other Boston-area organizations.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • · Serve as ICA liaison for teachers and administrators at WallTalk partner schools
  • · Coordinate logistical events for all off-site youth outreach sessions
  • · Responsible for teaching on-site and off-site youth outreach sessions as necessary Attend in-school meetings with school teachers and administrators when requested
  • · Greet and orient all WallTalk groups arriving at the museum
  • · Communicate regularly with ICA’s contract instructors
  • · Coordinate student transportation, school reimbursement requests, and supplies as required
  • · Coordinate WallTalk Publications and Reading Jams
  • · Coordinate ICA instructor workshops, quarterly and yearly WallTalk instructor meetings
  • · In conjunction with Associate Director of Education, coordinate recruitment and training initiatives
  • · Assist Associate Director of Education in developing WallTalk curriculum
  • · Maintain program’s web presence and online student gallery
  • · Represent the ICA and its youth outreach programs at city-wide meetings, conferences, and professional opportunities
  • · Keep abreast of best practices in museum education for youth audiences
  • · Must have reliable transportation or the ability to travel within the Boston area
  • · Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • · BA or BFA in Studio Art, Art History, Museum Education or equivalent related experience required. 1-2 years’ experience working with teens and high-school age youth
  • · Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary art and education
  • · Knowledge of, and previous experience with, curriculum development
  • · Possess the ability managing multiple projects; attention to detail a must
  • · Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate with a diverse populations and in front of large groups
  • · Ability to work independently, take initiative and solve problems
  • · Ability to lift equipment up to 40lbs
