Concert manager – A Music Administration Opportunity

Description:

The Brockton Symphony Orchestra (James M. Orent, Music Director) seeks a part-time Concert Manager to perform concert-related duties for the Orchestra. As an independent contractor, the individual will report to the Board of Directors and will work with the Music Director, personnel manager, committee members, and volunteers who assist with concert-related tasks to ensure the smooth-running of each of our 4 symphonic concerts. These duties will include, but will not be limited to:


  • Making decisions with the conductor and Board about equipment and arrangements for both the dress rehearsals and concerts, and ensuring that those requirements are met. This includes venue logistics, stage management, and acting as liaison with the conductor, musicians, and soloists.
  • Acting as liaison to coordinate with and to furnish information to volunteers and board members handling publicity, concert announcements, and venue arrangements.
  • Proofreading and handling logistics as necessary, to ensure programs are ready and printed.
  • Hours are flexible, from mid-August through early May
Qualifications:

Applicants must be willing to work from home (must have a home computer with email and Microsoft Word and Excel or equivalent), except as needed at Christ Congregational Church (and Brockton High for Holiday Pops) for orchestra business and concerts.


Specific needs at Christ Congregational may include an hour weekly on certain Mondays (rehearsals), an hour on Saturday mornings on concert weekends (dress rehearsals), about 5 hours on the Sunday of each of 4 concerts, and Executive Committee meetings, one evening a month (for the first hour).


Must be reliably available by cell phone and email and have a driver’s license and access to a car.


Qualified applicants will have demonstrable administrative capability, including facility with Microsoft Office; excellent organizational, project management, communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills; excellent time management skills; and ability to handle deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with the basic administrative (and musical) needs of a symphony orchestra.
